SUNRISE HIKE AT LAKE BLED

I have always been one to appreciate the morning light and the sunrise. Maybe it's because I'm a borderline insomniac and a total morning person, or perhaps because it takes a bit more effort to wake up and see the sunrise. Either way, the draw for morning vistas, especially in new places is highly appealing. Lake Bled is one such place where a little effort in the early morning is entirely worth it even on a day (like the day I was there) when the skies are slightly overcast.

On the Southwest end of the lake, near a campsite called Zaka follow a path with a wooden sign to Ojstrica into the forest. After a short while you will merge with a wider path and turn right. Follow the path through the forest until you come across a signpost for Ojstrica where you turn right. Climb the short rocky stepped path up for a few minutes and you will reach a small summit complete with a bench and a stunning view of Lake Bled.

From the lake the hike is only about 20 minutes and not too strenuous. Although there is an eerie and peaceful quality to this viewpoint at sunrise, you can do it at any time of the day and have equally unparalleled views.
